Please remember tonight to discuss your chosen family tradition so that you can continue developing your writing. Also a reminder that your science test on electricity is this Friday.

Monday, 8 January 2018

Welcome to a fantastic new year! We have plenty of learning to do to finish up our Term One.

In science, following our great scientists in the schools electricity workshop, we will be taking a closer look at the experiments we investigated. We will explore energies that transform into electricity, static electricity and both series and parallel circuits. A final test will be given either Friday, January 19th or Monday, January 22nd.

In French, we will soon begin our narrative winter stories. More details on this once we begin.

Please have your parents sign and return the possessive adjective quiz that was returned to you before the holidays.

A very busy month and a half has gone by since our Nov. 11th ceremony!  We are now in the advent season which asks for patience and kindness.
We've been busy working on and completing our biodiversity science projects on a mock situation: A local forest is being clear cut to make room for a new shopping mall. What are the positive and negative effects of this action? How can we inform others of it? Can this action happen and still preserve biodiversity? These questions were investigated, researched and then presented in a green screen video.

We are lucky to be continuing our art with a workshop given by a local artist Susan Goold who taught us about water colours.

In French, we are studying the use of possessive adjectives. Please keep an eye out for this package to come home this week as you need to practise for an upcoming test next week.

We will be venturing into more oral expression practice and assessment, as well as beginning our narrative writing of winter stories.

Please enjoy a wonderful holiday with your family and have a fantastic New Year!

We are almost ready for our Remembrance Day ceremony this Friday. Please look for black pants and plain white tops (no writing on the shirt please) and have them at school for Friday morning.

Happy Halloween!
Hopefully, you had a chance to hear the "Sophie la sorcière" comptine last night. The students really enjoyed this one!
You will have seen a French colour chart come home for you to post in a common room. This is a great practice tool to begin learning French vocabulary. Students develop a lot of confidence with knowing to initially recognize, and then, read and write.
November will be a fun month of food & clothing vocabulary. We will begin developing our understanding of a "phrase complète" (complete sentence) for both oral and writing responses.

We have a busy couple of weeks preparing our for our Remembrance Day liturgy on Friday, November 10th. Please work hard on practising our French song -Enfant de paix- by memorizing the words and the melody. You will find it on youtube under that name. It is important that you attend school that day, however if you know you will be absent, please let me know as soon as possible.
We are now exploring the drama technique of tableaux that will also be included in the above mentioned ceremony.
Not to forget Halloween, we are continuing our exploration into descriptive writing by using many adjectives and continuing to improve on our editing strategies.
Our volleyball unit in phys. ed. is developing a lot of talent in this sport. Talk to your parents about our healthy eating discussions over the past few days. What negative eating habits can you change at home?
We had the most fantastic day at the Bill Mason Centre last Monday, I think it was the best visit of the past few years. Beautiful weather and great exploration!

We've had a busy few weeks with both our biodiversity unit in science and our verb work on present, past and future tenses, as well as the negative form.
There are 2 important dates for you to prepare by practicing and studying well in advance. Our next verb test on the above tenses will be next Thursday, October 12th. Although we will be practising in class, it is important for you to do extra practice at home.
Our science test will be the following Thursday, October 19th. Again, although we do review notes and concepts in class, you should be practising and reviewing as well at home.
